Jacqueline "Muna" Musiitwa is
an attorney who runs her own firm,
Hoja Law Group , which represents
small businesses, start ups and non profits in commercial, intellectual
property and cross-border transactions. She was previously a corporate
associate at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, and has worked as an
in-house attorney for start ups. Muna's international experience
includes clerking at Denton Wilde Sapte's associate office in Lusaka,
Zambia, the University of Pretoria's Center for Human Rights, World
Vision in Chennai, India, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies in Geneva, Switzerland and Lawyers Without Borders. She is an
adjunct professor of International
Law at Central Michigan University as well as Social, Political and
Economic Issues in Modern Africa at Drexel University. Muna
is a mentor for the New York Women's Social Entrepreneurship Incubator
program. She is an honoree of the 2008 Empire State Counsel
® Program which honors New York attorneys who provide a certain number of pro bono hours to clients in need.
Muna obtained her BA in
Political Science and International Studies at Davidson College and JD
at the University of Melbourne. She is qualified to practice law in New
York and Australia.
Elle Byram
Elle Byram recently joined Transitional Trade after relocating to New York from Chicago, Illinois where she was a practicing litigation attorney. Prior to that Elle lived in San Francisco for number of years pursuing her law degree and a masters degree in psychology. During her graduate work in psychology, Elle counseled underprivileged citizens with various mental health issues. As a result of her educational background in psychology and law, Elle observed first hand the need for assistance to underprivileged citizens facing psychological and legal issues. Elle aims to combine her background in law and psychology by assisting persons who have received mental health and legal aid services and who have been unable to work or become involved into community activities back into their communities through volunteerism and other civic activities. Elle was born in Kansas City, MO and received her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Safy Nurhussein
Safy's interests include post-conflict economies, economic governance, and human-environment relations. He spent his 2002 UN internship studying reconstruction in Afghanistan, where he developed an interest in the role of imported vs. culturally-embedded norms and institutions in economic development. He expanded on this theme in his Master's thesis analyzing the growth of mobile technology markets in Somalia. Safy holds an A.B. in Politics from Oberlin College and earned his M.A. in Geography from the University of Oregon, where he also worked as a Graduate Teaching Fellow. He has published as a writer and cartographer.
